I-83 Projects

I-83/US 22 Interchange Safety Project

As part of the nationwide economic stimulus program, PennDOT has resurfaced a two-mile section of I-83 from the I-81 Interchange to the Union Deposit Interchange. The work consisted of milling and resurfacing the northbound and southbound lanes of I-83 to improve the ride quality.

The I-83 resurfacing project included safety improvements at the Colonial Park Interchange with U.S. 22 (Jonestown Road). In order to eliminate the vehicle conflicts along I-83 southbound, the loop ramp from southbound I-83 to eastbound U.S. 22 was removed. The traffic from I-83 southbound to U.S. 22 eastbound (toward the Colonial Park Mall) uses the same ramp as the I-83 southbound to U.S. 22 westbound traffic, through a signalized intersection on U.S. 22 near the Zimmerman Auer Funeral Home.

Both the resurfacing and the interchange ramp reconfiguration were completed in 2010.
